Length of Course
The HVAC Technician course is 600 clock hours and takes 20 weeks.
Objectives
The objective of the Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVAC/R) Technician Program is to provide students with the technical knowledge, occupational skills, and practical hands-on training necessary to obtain entry-level employment in the HVAC/R industry. The program prepares students to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair residential and light commercial heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, refrigeration, and heat pump systems in accordance with industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental requirements.
Upon successful completion of the program, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate safe work practices consistent with OSHA standards and industry requirements.
- Identify and properly use HVAC/R tools, instruments, and diagnostic equipment.
- Apply principles of heat transfer, refrigeration, electrical theory, and system operation.
- Install, maintain, and service air-conditioning, refrigeration, heating, and heat pump systems.
- Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, airflow, and refrigeration system faults.
- Perform refrigerant recovery, recycling, and charging procedures in compliance with EPA regulations.
- Evaluate system performance and recommend energy-efficient solutions.
- Apply Florida-specific HVAC practices related to humidity control, indoor air quality, mold prevention, and high-efficiency cooling systems.
- Prepare for and successfully complete the EPA Section 608 Certification examination.
- Demonstrate professionalism, communication skills, and workplace readiness required for employment in the HVAC/R field.

Graduates
Graduates of the program will be qualified to pursue entry-level positions such as HVAC Technician, HVAC Installer, HVAC Maintenance Technician, Refrigeration Technician, Service Technician, Heat Pump Technician, or HVAC Apprentice
